The Palmer Lake Metropolitan Urban Center District was formally adopted into the zoning code in 2013 via Ordinance 13-49 and subsequently amended by ordinances 14-22, 15-18, and 15-140. The Article applies to the area bounded by the Miami River on the northeast, the Seaboard Air Line Railroad on the west, and and the Tamiami Canal on the south. The intention of the governing Article is to permit the development of a Metropolitan Urban Center that fulfills a set of goals, objectives, and policies of the Comprehensive Development Master Plan by a) coordinating development intensity within the district by the proximity to mass transit, b) organizing an interconnected network of streets to improve pedestrian access to said transit, c) creating attractive and usable public space, and c) maintaining and promoting marine activity on the Miami River.
